Hating Ads?

Yeah, I know.. but we need to pay the bills somehow, so we run ads. But.. we don't run them on new posts, so if you are a regular reader here, you won't find any ads at all on the most recent additions. As posts get a few days old, the ads get put in. We think that's a fair compromise: every post is ad free for at least a few days, but we still get to make money on the older pages when you find them through Google or from following a link. Fair enough? We hope so.

Pay your own fricken bills, I got my own to worrry about lol. Since when
is it the visitor's responsibitly to pay your hosting fee, especially since
today web hosting is very cheap. Sounds like pan handling to me, everybody
knows the real reason websites have google ads, its to steal some cash.
If you are on the net then you should pay to be there, cost of publishing
your rants.

Good web hosting isn't cheap, son.

Maybe you can run some little site that nobody reads on
cheap or free hosting, but once you start getting real traffic, that
doesn't work.

And what about my time? As I said, I made what I think is a good compromise
here: no ads on the most current posts, ads after that.

Sun Apr 20 13:44:23 2008 I blocked your adds but...  anonymous

Website:
I've now unblocked them (for your site) because you asked so nicely. They
do provide you with the money to keep the site up.

As long as they are not annoying pop-up/-under, noisy flash or other irritating
types of adverts they will stay unblocked...

Well, you didn't need to do that.

But it does point out something I've said over and over again here:
if you really can't stand ads, it's easy enough to block them, no matter
what your browser.

And if for some reason you can't, you can read almost all pages here through
the "Printer-Friendly" link - that strips ALL ads.

It's really silly to complain about advertising when it is so easy to block!
By the way, sometimes (often) the ads are very relevant to the article
subject matter - we tend not to get annoying drug ads and the like - it's
much more tech stuff, computers, hard drives, electronics - things you just
might be interested in!

Thanks for leaving a note about why your ads are up. People don't appreciate
the content they are abusing on a daily basis. I've enjoyed some of the
discussions you've sparked and hope you are raking in money with advertisements.
That's the business model, and that's what works.

If anyone else reads this, realize that this content doesn't write itself
and it DOES cost money to host. Any small inconvenience you have in scrolling
by an ad wouldn't be an issue if you never visited the site to read the
content.

You don't have to apologize for a little box that nobody reads half the
time anyway.

Paid content, no ads. It's a basic unwritten law of economics in media.
When I get a little peeved is when I pay for content and *still* get ads.
Not cool. Otherwise, ads make the information flow. So, good on ya!

As long as your ads aren't resource hogging flash banners, noisy animated
gifs or annoying pop-ups, you'll hear no complaints from me.
