RootdirMostfaq :We have just built a raid 5 with four 120g hard drives. Will I need to defragment the raid 5 server? Or, will that mess up the way the blocks are read?

What did you intend to use to defrag with?

Is this a hardware or software raid?

It's not usually necessary to defrag Unix fs's at all, see
