Is it possible to use the mouse in a character application?

Yes; once you've configured your mouse with the 'mkdev mouse' utility, execute 'usemouse'. This command will start a shell under which you can move the mouse to 'simulate" cursor keys; to see how it work, try by editing an existing file with vi (after running the 'usemouse' command of course). You can move the mouse and watch the cursor moving accordingly across the screen.

To end the 'usemouse' shell, simply type 'CTRL-D'.
