I really don't want to say anything negative about this book. SCO Companion is a tremendously ambitious book, attempting to cover just about anything and everything you would ever want or need to know. At over 700 pages, it undoubtedly contains more information than you can find in any other single place, and if there are any inaccuracies, I failed to notice them.

This is the book I wish I had when I first started to learn about SCO. This is the book I wanted to write, but I never would have had the patience to complete it. This is the book that anyone who wants to be a "SCO expert" needs, and is even a book that more experienced folk can find value in.

And yet, in spite of all that, this is a book that disappoints.

It's not Jim Mohr's fault. In 700 pages, even in 7,000 pages, you can't cover everything. You can cover some things, and you can give hints about others, but even at that you are going to leave gaping holes. Jim even admits that himself.

I guess I want this to be the "32 Volume SCO Encyclopedia", and it can't be, because no publisher would publish it and no one could afford to buy it if they did.

If you are running SCO, you want this book. You'll still need shelves of other books, but this is a definite.

@loudmouthman: correct, but how do you prove ANYTHING like that is accurate? You can't. A text file is no better or worse than anything.

@loudmouthman: well, a digital signature could prove it hadn't been altered. Text is no more insecure than anything else in that sense.
